blog housekeeping

My apologies to everyone who had to see those horrible explicit spam comments in the last few posts - normally I get nonsensical but benign spam comments that I remove eventually but I really should have acted faster to get rid of those disgusting comments.

Actually I have been getting inundated with the anonymous spam comments to the point where I can't really keep up with removing them so unfortunately I've had to reinstate word verification to leave comments.  I know that the word verification is sometimes difficult to read and can be painful to use, but please don't let that put you off commenting - I appreciate every comment and love the two way conversations starting to develop here on my blog.

And since I don't like to post without some eyecandy, here's an inspiring thought to brighten your Tuesday:

  1. Ah yes, my new philosophy and ties in very nicely with my post today. It's such an important message!

  2. I had to turn the word verification back on, too. The nonsense spam I could deal with, but the obscene stuff...nope. *shudder*. So sad.

  3. Have you considered going to your control pattern and disallowing anonymous comments - they are the ones people usually have trouble with

  4. It's good to know one is not alone in this, I'm tired of this spam popping up on my blog as well!

  5. Totally understandable. THe spam is beyond annoying but I didn`t realise it was getting obscene.

  6. I use Askimet on my wordpress installation http://akismet.com/how/ You could see if you can have a similar tool on blogger.

Love the daily quote...summarizes my Monday!

  7. I've been getting lots of those annoying anonymous spam comments, too! I hate them. I don't like word verification, but I certainly understand the need for it.

  8. So sorry to hear about the awful/obscene spam. Your blog is one I follow on a very regular basis. I love both your fashion and writing style.

I'm a beginner sewer and love reading sewing blogs. I also enjoy adding my comments -- mainly compliments on the lovely constructed garments. When I do comment, I generally have to comment as "anoymous." I don't have a blog and while I think I have a gmail address, I don't really use that e-mail account, so normally don't have the gmail address or password. So, while the word verification is a bit annoying, I'd much prefer that than not being able to post at all.

There are some blogs I follow that won't allow you to post a comment anonymously, which is too bad for folks like me who'd like to add a comment. Having said that, I can understand wanting to have as much protection of your blog comments as possible. It's such a sad state of affairs when people have to be so concerned about the awful bizarre statements individuals will make on a sewing blog.

  10. I had some nasty spam too. I changed my blog password and so far, that has taken care of it.

  11. I've also been hit by some nasty spam as well, so have gone to moderated comments, which isn't too much work.

  12. Have you tried removing the option for anonymous comments? I was getting horrendous spam but, when I knocked anonymous on the head they all magically disappeared! I haven't got anything too obscene yet, thankfully!

I just wanted to mention this because I have huge problems reading CAPTCHA and I know a lot of others do. They look like ink blot tests as opposed to letters. Thankfully I have some software called rumola (skipinput.com if you want to try it!) that reads and fills in CAPTCHAs for me but, not everyone has this!

    Thanks,

    Ally
