my big box of UFOs

In response to Vicki's question:

No, definitely a long way from reaching the bottom of this pile.

Sigh......

Obviously I really can be impatient, distracted and quick to give up sometimes, but as a weak defence this lot is about 15 years in the making. Probably another 15 years in the finalisation too!

The good news is that I edited this box further after this photo and ditched another two UFOs on the basis of poor fabric/pattern choice, I've sewn up another as far as I can go before needing to overlock the seams and I'm in the process of unpicking another to re-do it. Baby steps...

Speaking of baby steps, Anna started walking over the weekend. Well she takes about 4 or 5 steps before she topples over, but it's a start. Now it's only a matter of time before I can teach her to fetch me a cup of tea!

  1. Don't place bets on the cup of tea. They never learn that. I'm really impressed by how neatly your fabric is folded and stored. It puts me to shame.

  2. Ha,ha...the cup of tea comment made me laugh! I have to say I can get my two to make me tea. They are never happy about it but they will do it :) Your UFO box doesn't look too big, I am sure you can knock it over in no time at all.

  3. Kristy - I'm soooo distracted by the shelves behind the box. Do you think you can post another pic of your lovely fabric wall? I'm a fabricaholic and I need a fix! *LOL*

  4. At least you are organized! Congrats on baby's first steps.

  5. Ha! Fetch a cup of tea....Yeah...my 14 year old can barely manage it. That's really a small box of UFO's for 15 years of production. Think of the size of the box(es) you would need to hold the finishes you created in that time.

  6. I'm with Carolyn...those neatly stacked fabrics on the shelf behind the box are very intriguing! Hooray for Anna...another milestone reached! Good luck with the tea fetching! :)

  7. I've managed to convince myself I have very few UFOs but not storing them too close together. Great news that Anna is walking. Now she'll really have you hopping!

  8. I'm impressed by your storage as well.
You'll be amazed how quickly they can go from a few steps to running. But the cup of tea may be a way off yet, lol.

  9. If this is truly 15 years in the making, there are probably much more than 2 things to edit out of there.. Assuming you're one of the lucky people who is still the exact same size, do you still like the same colors, the same fabrics, the same styles?? Highly unlikely. So instead of staring at a big guilt-inducing box, you can probably bring it down to just a few items. Pretend you're shopping at a store, would you want -that-if it was in wearable shape?

I didn't stop UFOs because I'm virtuous - I stopped because I realized that 2 years later I'm very unlikely to still want the same thing out of that fabric. In addition, something usually becomes a UFO when I get a sick feeling that it's not going to work. So put it directly in the scrap pile instead of a UFO pile, and life will look brighter :-).

  10. That's right, train Anna now and at best you'll get a few good years of indentured service out of her. My daughter Annie would give me foot massages up until she hit age four. Servitude to her dear mother was down hill after that.

  11. So fun that Anna is walking... our almost 18 month old grandson isn't yet... although he was premature... he is standing and proud of it... but that's all!
I do agree with Carol though... won't be long and Anna will be running! Enjoy... and as most of the others have said! Good luck with the tea thing! Maybe she will have to bring you a cup of tea in a travel mug.... a.k.a. an adult sippy cup! That should work! Give it time! Way to knock down the UFO's... I don't have all of mine in one place... I ought too...but I don't!
